             THIS YEAR'S THEME

Strawberry Hill Races

How to Get With This Year’s Race Theme –
A Salute to the Preakness

Celebrate Strawberry Hill Race’s salute to the second leg of the Triple Crown – The Preakness Race with a full Maryland-inspired theme. The State Flower of Maryland is the Black Eyed Susan and the Preakness is known as ‘The Run for the Black Eyed Susans.”

Food
Your menu can include Maryland staples such as crab (like crab cakes and warm crab dip,) fried chicken and of course the Maryland state dessert Smith Island Cake. Use vegetables that are in season, corn on the cob, sauteed zucchini, tomato salad, pasta salad.

Decor
The decor should consist of a horse race theme, with subtle Maryland undertones. Include the Black Eyed Susan as well as yellow and black accents to pull it all together. Use equestrian tack and equipment, then accent with Black Eyed Susans.

Official Drink
The official drink of the Preakness is The Black Eyed Susan, a mixture of fruit juices and spirits Serve in cool retro equine-themed glasses for more splash.

Dress
All guests are encouraged to wear ‘sporting causual’ attire such as khakis with button downs and sundresses with big hats, Flourishes of yellow, black and red, colors of the Maryland state flag, are always welcome.

As always, add in a few strawberries . . for the Strawberry Hill Races.

Strawberry Hill Race’s tie to the Preakness!

The Strawberry Hill Race's tie to The Preakness Stakes is significant. Strawberry Hill's parent company, SFVA, owns the Meadow Event Park, where horseracing legend Secretariat was born and trained. Secretariat won horse racing's Triple Crown (The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes) in 1973, each in record time.
